Gastric banding is a procedure where your stomach is divided into a top and bottom area. Once it has been divided, a band is set across to separate the two. This band will then control how much food moves through your stomach by having a hole in the middle. This area can either be larger or smaller, causing the food to move through when it is not needed. This allows your body to not need as much food, giving you an easier way to loose a lot of weight in a short amount of time.

There are several types of gastric banding surgery that can be done. One option is the non-adjustable gastric band. Some bands can change the size of the restriction that allows the food to move to your lower stomach. The non-adjustable gastric band, however, will be set at a certain size and will stay that way while you loose the weight.

The gastric band that is used is a one centimetre Silicone band. This band is then set to encircle the upper stomach. This will then create a pouch out of the upper stomach. This will then stay on the stomach until the weight is loss. At this point, the gastric banding will be removed. With a gastric band that is adjustable, you will have a tube that goes to your stomach and adds or takes away fluid from the band as needed. This will control the gap between the upper and lower stomach.

There are several advantages and dis-advantages to the non-adjustable gastric banding procedure. Those who get this done are known to have shorter hospital stays and not as many side effects. However, because the band is not adjustable, it may also cause complications. It is easier for the band to slip or erode in the stomach. It also may need to be reversed or revised after the surgery is over. Your system may not be able to adapt to the banding as a change, causing a hernia or gastric perforation.

If you don't want an adjustable bandage, but feel that using a bandage for your weight loss surgery, then this is another option to consider. By having a non-adjustable bandage for your surgery, you will have a variety of possibilities during and after your surgery to help with weight loss. Knowing what non-adjustable bandages are, as well as what the advantages and problems are with them will add to what you decide with your weight loss surgery.

Some smaller complications may occur because of the staple line or stretched stomach areas. These will often not break down or break down too much. The stresses that were on your body from the extra weight are suddenly gone, making the body to have to reorganize how much weight it holds up as well as how it is held together. This results in the staple line breaking down too soon or the stomach outlets stretching after the surgery without the weight there.

Other risks that may occur will come from the particular type of weight loss surgery that you are looking into. Depending on what the surgery is, different parts of the body may be affected as your body goes through its transition to being healthier.
