Adjustable Gastric Banding

For those that are considering weight loss surgery, they may have found that there are several types of surgery that are available. Each of these options will differ by physician's recommendations as well as your preference. If you are looking for the right type of surgery to help with your weight loss, then you may want to look into adjustable gastric banding. This particular type of surgery follows specific procedures that allow for you to loose the weight that you need.

An adjustable gastric band weight loss surgery begins with dividing the stomach into a lower and upper portion. The band is then placed around the upper part to make a stomach pouch. The band that is used will have an open area between the upper and lower stomach which then regulates how much food moves into one place. This will allow for you to receive the nutrients that you need and will also help with controlling your food portions. From here, the band is attached to a tube that moves to the band from your chest. This is placed in the muscles of your chest. This will be monitored in order to add or take away fluids that are in the band, causing the band to tighten or loosen.

There are several things to look for after you have had adjustable gastric banding as your procedure. For example, if the band is too tight or too loose, it will cause side effects like reflux, problems with swallowing or heartburn. However, by re-adjusting the band after these problems occur, it will prevent future problems like this from occurring. One of the reasons why the adjustable band is used is to prevent the majority of the problems and side-effects to happen.

The band that is used will continue to be adjusted to the needs that you have at the time. This will be determined by how much weight is being lost, as well as how much time has passed from the surgery. Often times, surgeons will recommend to make the band tighter or looser in order to speed up the weight loss procedure.

Tightening or loosening the band after you have had surgery will also be looked into and determined by several other signs. For example, if it is seen that you are struggling to loose one to two pounds a week, the surgeon may recommend loosening the band. If the band is too tight, you will have trouble eating and drinking fluids and will have the side-effects mentioned before. These are important to pay attention to after you have had the surgery in order to ensure your weight loss.

If you are looking into weight loss surgeries, having an adjustable gastric banding procedure done is often popular. Because it reduces side-effects, and can eliminate problems with adjustment, several surgeons will recommend this as an option for their patients. This surgery can then be a beginning to loosing the weight that you need and moving from being morbidly obese to being in complete health.

Five Alkaline Drinks For The Alkaline Diet
Jun 29th, 2010 by samfrea

Vegetable juices and smoothies can be a critical part of the acid alkaline diet. These alkaline diet drinks are utterly delicious, readily assimilated, and full of the nutrients your body requires for complete health. These alkaline diet recipes are strongly packed with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, and the best part is that they taste delicious.

Vegetable juice is a great way to build the blood and cleanse the body. To achieve the best results, use a juicer, although if one is not available, a blender can be used instead. Celery provides a mild-tasting juice that be used to dilute strong-flavored vegetables, like collard greens and kale. Although I usually recommend avoiding fruit juices because they are relatively high in sugar, it is okay to add some apples to give the vegetable juice a sweeter taste.

The recipes for the following fruit smoothies are truly tasty. When you make the smoothie, make one portion at a time. If you make more than you can use up in a day, this will result in a crucial loss of nutritional benefits. For added variety, adding a little ginger to any of the following recipes will do wonders for increasing the circulation.

Apple-Pineapple Smoothie

In a blender, mix four cups of apples, a half of a pineapple, one mango, two each of plums and bananas, and four cups of ice cubes. Mix until it reaches a smooth consistency. Servings: 2.

Ginger-Plum Smoothie

Combine until smooth two each of plums and oranges, a chunk of ginger roughly two inches thick, one half of a pineapple, a kiwi, and four cups of ice cubes. Mix until smooth, then enjoy. This recipe is also good for two large smoothies.

Blueberry-Mango Smoothie

Start with three apples, two each of bananas and plums, one cup of blueberries, and one each of peach, lemon, and mango. Blend with four cups of ice cubes until it becomes smooth. This smoothie is so tasty that it is hard to just drink one glass.

Green Smoothie

The green smoothie is a super-alkalizing secret to the alkaline diet. It tastes great and will provide you more wholesome energy than the cup of coffee you probably drink. In a blender, blend one cup of blueberries, two bananas, two big handfuls of spinach or kale, one handful of seaweed or kelp, three tablespoons of wheat grass juice, one cup of pure spring water, and ice cubes. Combine until altogether mixed and smooth, adding additional ice cubes if necessary. Drink one glass each morning to get a healthy beginning to the day.

These are only five of the tasty alkaline recipes that are available for utilizing the benefits of the alkaline diet. Use a number of fruits and green leafy vegetables to create your own favorite drink. Don't use already made juices for the fruit juice, as they are not as beneficial as whole fruit.
