Cabbage Soup Diet Review – Can You Lose 10 Pounds In 7 Days?

cabbage soup diet

In this Cabbage Soup Diet Review, I’m going to tell you the good and the bad of this popular fad diet.

Click here to skip my review and try out the Cabbage Soup Diet.

In the plan, you eat as much of the soup as you want plus certain foods on certain days. It is a seven day meal plan and the authors claim you can lose up to 10 pounds in just a week.

This Cabbage Soup Diet Review’s goal is to help you decide if you want to try the plan.

The cabbage soup diet is most often attributed to the Mayo Clinic, although they have issued a number of releases saying that they had nothing to do with its development and do not endorse it.

If you have a major hospital in your area, you may have heard of the cabbage soup diet associated with the hospital’s name. For instance, Loma Linda University is a major teaching hospital in one area and people in the vicinity call it the Loma Linda Diet.

One of the problems with the Cabbage Soup diet, is that while it is a good diet in some limited circumstances, if you are looking for lasting weight management, it’s not the right choice for you.

Still there are two factors that make this program so attractive. The first is that if you stick to the plan, you will lose weight – up to 10 pounds in just one week.

The other plus is that you won’t have to be hungry at all. That is because you get to eat as much of the soup as you want. You may get tired of the soup, but you won’t go hungry.

The downsides of the program are also twofold.

The first is that the diet is boring and many people find the food bland. You are only allowed certain foods on certain days.

For instance, on one day, all you can have besides the soup is bananas and skim milk. On the other hand, on another day you get up to 16 ounces of steak and all the vegetables you want.

The other problem with the diet is that it is extremely low in calories. That means that it is not sustainable over time.

In fact, even people who endorse the cabbage soup diet recommend that you stay on the diet for one week and then wait at least one week before starting the cycle again.

You will average about 900 calories on the diet.

This cabbage soup diet reviewer notes that that’s not enough to keep your body going. And that is why your body will be forced to burn fat.

That’s a good thing, for a few days. But, if you stay on it for more than a week, your metabolism will start to shut down, reducing the fat-burning effects.

Also, the main weight loss from the cabbage soup diet comes from water loss.

In short, my cabbage soup diet review points out that if you need to lose weight for a one-of situation like a wedding, reunion, or just a big date, this may be a solution for you. But if you are looking for a long term solution, this is not the program for you.

You can’t lose weight fast without exercise. Depending how fast you wish to lose weight, you may need to exercise intensely everyday. This means running or walking for at least 30 minutes twice per day. You should also incorporate some resistance training as the gaining of muscle results in the faster loss of fat.

Using the Pilates Mini Ball

April 9th, 2010 Aldouspi No comments

pilates ball

A Pilates mini ball is a very inexpensive piece of exercise equipment that can help you do many exercises. While it isn’t necessary to have one to do Pilates or any type of workout, a Pilates mini ball can help make certain exercises more efficient.

Using a ball in your workout can help you focus on muscles that you might otherwise neglect. Because you often have to concentrate on holding the ball between your knees or squeezing it while making movements, it makes you more aware of the muscles you’re using.

A variety of exercises have been developed by Pilates experts to help you use a Pilates mini ball properly and get the most from the exercises.

There are routines designed for Pilates beginners specifically that use the ball to make the new exerciser more aware of certain muscles and movements. Intermediate routines are more of a challenge, while advanced workouts use the ball to really go deep into those core muscles.

To start using a Pilates mini ball, try some basic exercises like these:

  • Stand about an arm’s length away from the wall, and hold the ball between your hands. Put the ball against the wall and lean into it, letting your elbows bend, then push yourself back.
  • Lie on the floor with your knees bent and the ball between your ankles. Hold the ball there as you straighten your legs and bend them slowly.
  • Or do something as simple as sit in a chair with the ball between your thighs. Use your thigh muscles to squeeze the ball slowly and relax.

If you’ll do those exercises regularly, just 10 times each, you’ll soon start to feel and see a difference in those muscle groups.

You might be wondering what the benefit of using the ball might be in an exercise like the wall push-up listed above. Couldn’t you just stand and put your hands on the wall to do the same thing?

Yes, of course you could. And you’d still benefit from the exercises. You could tone your arms that way. But using a ball gives the exercise more intensity. Because you’re leaning against a round somewhat malleable ball, you have to constantly correct your balance to keep the ball from rolling. You use tiny muscles in ways that you don’t normally use them when you use a ball.

You can use a Pilates mini ball for a variety of exercises. Just incorporate it into things you normally do. The added bit of resistance and the requirement of balancing yourself will add another layer to your workouts.

Another nice thing about a Pilates ball is that even if you buy one made specifically for Pilates, they’re relatively inexpensive. And if you want to go even cheaper, just buy a child’s ball that’s around the same size—about the size of a soccer ball. If you have kids, you might have the perfect Pilates mini ball already waiting for you in a closet or your child’s toy box.

Does Pilates Work, Millions Answer Yes

April 5th, 2010 Aldouspi No comments

pilates

Does Pilates work, even if you’re terribly out of shape? Does it work if you’ve had an injury, or you have bad knees?

Millions of people have discovered that Pilates seems to be good for whatever ails you.

It may not be a miracle cure for every ailment, but ask anyone who’s been doing Pilates regularly, “Does Pilates work?” You’re bound to get a resounding, “Yes!”

Pilates stared out as an exercise only wealthy people could afford, because it was done on an expensive machine called a Reformer.

Joseph Pilates designed the machine to be used for over a hundred different movements. Each movement uses your body’s weight as resistance, and offers equal intensity through both sides of each movement, to work opposing muscle groups equally.

Does Pilates work to help strengthen muscles?

Yes, and it does so without building muscle bulk that body builders go for. Because the movements don’t have to be repeated many times for you reap the full benefits, there’s no bulky muscle building involved. Rather, Pilates lengthens and tones the muscles, which actually makes them smaller and denser.

Do the exercises work if you’ve had an injury?

Pilates is renowned for helping prevent injury! And even those who’ve already suffered back, knee and joint injuries can find the slow and soothing movements of Pilates will help strengthen the muscles around those joints.

It’s a low impact workout, so there’s no strain or pressure put on joints. This minimizes the risk of someone injuring themselves again.

Will it really help you improve your posture like you’ve heard?

Because Pilates strengthens the core muscles of the abdomen and lower back, the entire body is better supported. This can help someone who’s been doing Pilates workouts walk taller and hold themselves straighter.

Does Pilates work to improve all the body’s systems?

While this might seem to be a far-fetched claim, think about all that Pilates does. It strengthens the muscles while toning and trimming them. It strengthens the core muscles that support not only the spine but surrounds the body’s organs and holds them firm. So not only is posture improved, but because the entire abdominal wall is stronger, it offers more support for your internal organs.

People who do Pilates benefit from the deep breathing of the exercises and the controlled breathing and movement. So not only are your organs better supported, breathing is improved which helps put more oxygen into your bloodstream.

It’s starting to get easier to see how Pilates can improve your overall health, isn’t it?

Does Pilates work if you’re really out of shape?

Yes! The beauty of Pilates is that it doesn’t take long, grueling workout sessions to see benefits. A person who hasn’t exercised in a long time can start out doing just 5 or 10 minutes of Pilates movements at a time.

Because of the great strengthening benefits of Pilates, even a beginner can increase the time spent working out quite rapidly.

Does Pilates work? Try it yourself, and you’ll be able to answer that much faster than you think!

Margie had gained 30 pounds after her second pregnancy. She was sluggish – and not just because she had to keep up with a baby and a toddler. She felt that her weight was keeping her from being the mother she wanted to be.

Margie went to a dietitian to help her change her food choices. One of the things Susan, her dietitian, suggested was to eat a variety of whole foods that were low in fat and high in fiber. Margie had been making a variety of quick meals and picking up fast food because of her duties as a mom. She decided that it was important to start cooking wholesome meals for her husband and herself. She quickly started losing one to two pounds a week. weight loss success Within 4 months, she was back to her pre-pregnancy weight. What a great weight loss before & after story.

Another factor that was important in her weight loss was wanting to create a family of healthy eaters. She didn’t want her kids to think that food came from McDonalds. Fast food should be an occasional treat not a mainstay of their diets.

Margie’s weight loss before & after story is an inspiration to all new moms struggling to lose the baby weight.

Rob was a teacher at an exclusive public school who has his own weight loss before & after story. One of the perks of teaching at the school was that it provided a catered lunch each day. In addition, fellow teachers often brought specialty foods to share at lunchtime.

The camaraderie in the lunchroom was one of the strengths of the school program. But it was killing Rob’s waistline. He decided that he would bring a low calorie sack lunch and begin walking during 20 minutes of his lunch break. He worried that skipping the lunchroom would mean he would distance himself from his fellow teachers. But, when they saw that he was losing a significant amount of weight on his program, many of the other teachers joined in. Soon, there was a teacher’s walking club at lunch time. A “club” based around an unhealthy eating pattern was replaced by one based on a healthy one. What a wonderful weight loss before & after story!

Kerry was a busy mom with a 50+ hour a week job. When she wasn’t working, she wanted to spend time with her two boys, Gregg who was 9 and Vince who was 11. She felt guilty about going to the gym because that was an hour and a half she could have been spending with her kids.

But, as she crept up near 200 pounds, she knew something had to change. One thing she did was get up a half hour earlier in the morning to take a walk. Then, when she got home in the evenings, she made a point of playing 20 minutes of basketball with the boys every day. Her new physical activity combined with a low fat, lower calorie diet, led to her losing 55 pounds over the course of a year.

Being able to increase the time she spent with her kids as well as losing the weight was a win-win for Kerry. That’s a truly great weight loss before & after story.

Do you have your own weight loss before & after story? Be sure to share it with others as it can encourage them to lose weight as well.
