Does hCG Diet Really Work?

The first thing to keep in mind when trying to lose weight is that there's a lot of factors involved. Genetics, hormones, and even age can all play a part in whether or not that diet plan will work for you.

So the smartest advice for picking a weight loss strategy isn't to pick what seems to be the biggest thing on the market. Instead, pick one that has both a general strategy and the possibility of getting personalized advice from a medical professional. One of the things that offer both of those is the hCG diet, which may or may not be the right fit for you.

The hCG diet, developed back in 1969 by a British endocrinologist, attempts to be a comprehensive and efficient way of cutting off excess pounds without putting too much pressure on the dieter. The core of it is the hCG hormone. Supposedly, the hormone signals the brain to trigger the breakdown of fat stores into calories during pregnancy.

These calories are used to provide the developing fetus energy for growth and development. In theory, when used by someone who isn't pregnant, it can be used to chip away at stored fats in areas like the thighs, hips, and waist. This nets the dual benefit of easy weight loss and a boost in energy levels.

Alright, so this hCG thing sounds good so far. Is there a catch? Well, like any other diet plan that's based on data that's not entirely proven, there are a few. The first thing to keep in mind is that the clinical data isn't entirely sure yet. The hormone this is all based on hasn't been definitively proven to do the things that it is claimed to do. There are also concerns on whether or not hCG formulations on the market would be safe for people to actually take. Finally, while hCG might prove effective, it will not solve all of a person's weight-related issues.

The hCG diet does mix the hormone with more tried-and-true solutions, such as an exercise regimen and a low-calorie diet. It seems like the hormone isn't really the core of the strategy and is more like a supplement, which could be better for dieters in the long-run. This means that even if the hormone isn't all it's cracked up to be, there's still a solid foundation to burn excess pounds – and keep them off, too. Just don't expect it to be a quick fix, since diets that actually work never are.
